FANTASIA TOUR HAVIXBECK YOUTH SYMPHONIC BAND: 19th August 2016, Mercator Science and Education (MSE) together with Cultural Center of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) welcomed a brass orchestra group known as ‘Havixbeck Youth Symphonic Band Germany’ to perform at Dewan Canselor Tun Abdul Razak, UKM. The young European band traveled on a concert tour to Singapore and Malaysia to establish cultural and social contacts as well as to support the growing importance of the international relationships between Malaysia and Germany. This concert tour was also supported by Goethe Institute and German Embassy Kuala Lumpur. The band consisting 64 young musicians aged between 18-27 years will have the chance to interrelate with the outstanding Malaysian maestro Dato’ Johari Salleh in gaining new ideas through music. The main aims of the ensemble is to connect people and music together. The one day concert comprises a workshop session with Dato’ Johari followed with an orchestra performance by the German orchestra band. In line with our Malaysian culture the Havixbeck Youth Symphonic Band Germany dedicated a Malay classic song ‘Hamidah’ by late Tan Sri P.Ramlee compositions by Dato’ Johari. This collaboration event between MSE and UKM Cultural Centre attracted young communities to involve in cultural activities as well as being a medium to produce a generation of skilled and confident in approaching arts and cultural aspects. Along with MSE motto ‘Your Bridge to Germany’, this event gave a pathway into German cultures and values which can be seen through music.
